AT&T is bringing 1Gbps FTTH to Durham, NC

The lack of wireline facilities in Durham means AT&T has to build its FTTH infrastructure from zero. The Ma-Bell company is offering this service as part of The North Carolina Next Generation Network.

The service will have up to 1Gbps download Internet speed for a monthly cost as low as USD 70, AT&T reached Durham first than the Google Fiber service, who haven’t specified when they will start they work in the city.

The NCNGN reaches these cities: Raleigh, Cary, Carrboro, Chapel Hill, Winston-Salem with this services:

• U-verse High Speed Internet Premier: Internet speeds up to 1Gbps starting as low as $70 a month.
• U-verse High Speed Internet Premier + TV: Internet speeds up to 1Gbps and qualifying TV service starting as low as $120 a month.
• U-verse High Speed Internet Premier + TV + Voice: Internet speeds up to 1Gbps with qualifying TV service and Unlimited U-verse Voice starting as low as $150 a month

AT&T North Carolina president, Venessa Harrison declared in a interview with Triangle Business Journal: “This was a little bit out of the norm for us. We don’t traditionally serve Durham”.

In the same interview Harrison admitted that “the wireless industry has changed”.
