Best Buy joins Obama's FTTH program

The retail store will collaborate with training programs and tech-support to the community in President Obama’s ConnectHome , the project that will deliver high speed Internet to 275,000 low-income households in 27 cities.

In the White House Statement is explained that Best Buy: “will offer Housing and Urban Development (HUD) residents in select ConnectHome demonstration project cities, including Choctaw Tribal Nation, the computer training and technical support needed to maximize the academic and economic impact of broadband access. Best Buy will also offer after-school technical training, for free, to students participating in ConnectHome at Best Buy Teen Centers in Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York City, San Antonio, and Washington, DC.”

ConnectHome will reach nearly 200,000 children that doesn’t have access to Internet at home, in attempt to reduce the “homework gap” that lower-income children experience.

Others cities part of the program are:  Albany, GA; Baltimore, Baton Rouge, Boston, Camden, NJ; Cleveland, Denver, Durham, NC; Fresno, CA; Kansas City, MO; Little Rock, AR; Macon, GA; Memphis, Meriden, CT; Nashville, New Orleans, Newark, Philadelphia, Rockford, IL; San Antonio, Seattle, Springfield, MA; and Tampa.
