Obama wants faster internet for you
“The Internet is not a luxury, it is a necessity” with that phrase Obama labeled the project ConnectHome, a way to deliver internet to every american home, few people can imagine that one of four people in the U.S. don’t have internet access at home.
Internet and broadband has been a hot topic in the U.S. even the communities are fighting against giants telecoms for a better service, and the Federal Communications Commission is really trying to defend the customers from this big telecoms, part of the federal government effort to improve the service.
But this fight is about the poors for Obama, the pilot program of ConnectHome will reach more than 275,000 low-income households, including one tribal nation, The Choctaw Nation of Oklahom, in Oklahoma.
Meanwhile, the FCC is doing its part by changing the game rules a liltle bit. At the end of june they decided that if a large company wanted to label their products as “broadband”, well, they needed to upgrade the service. The commission has recently punish AT&T specifically whom throttled net speed for some users.
If they provider offers a download speed of 25Mbps then you can call it broadband, the old standard was a 4Mbps download speed. The U.S. average Internet speed is around 10.5 Mpbs. You can check the project here: ConnectHome
