Verizon will reach 80Gbps in the near future.

Verizon-s new super-fast fiber optic technology has successfully completed all field tests. With next-generation passive optical network (NG-PON2) it could offer speeds anywhere from 10Gbps to 80Gpbs “in the future”according to Lee Hicks, vice president of network technology for Verizon. The new fiber uses an optical line terminal (OLT) capable of generating four wavelengths of light. making it one of the most powerful multimode cables.

The New York based company is implementing this tech as a step for the upcoming conversion to 4k video streaming services. Verizon will begin issuing “request for proposals” for the hardware and software needed to upgrade its FIOS service.
